Adventures in Wanderlust: Meet Liam & Philippa @hitchedhikers February 13 2018, 0 Comments

Meet Liam and Philippa. They got married, quit their jobs and bought a one way way. They have been traveling the world for over a year visiting over 14 countries along the way, and are currently in New Zealand!   Check out their interview below and follow their amazing adventure on instagram @hitched.hikers.

What inspired or prompted it…

We get asked this a lot, but this answer is always the same. We don't actually remember when we decided to this is just sort of happened! We used to travel a lot when we worked as teachers during the school holidays but we always kind of presumed we would take a long term trip.

What were you most looking forward to as you worked towards starting this adventure…

South America, but we are still yet to get there! Although we have officially booked our flight to Buenos Aires in March and we can't wait!

How did your friends and family react as you announced this journey…

We got a mixed response really, some we're super excited for us and other really didn't want us to leave. I guess you have to do what is right for you though. I read somewhere that the last freedom of the human race is the right to choose your own path.

Have you made any significant life changes to start or accommodate your adventure?

We suppose the biggest change was a lifestyle choice to live as cheaply as possible in order to prolong our adventure for as long as possible. We hitch hike, couch surf and volunteer to fund our journey.
What has been your favorite moment of your journey so far…

As an individual moment I would have to say Skydiving in Queensland, Australia!

What have you learned so far on this journey…

The biggest lesson we have learnt is regarding happiness. People often get confused, including us, between having fun and happiness. We feel that we have learnt how to feel a mellow contentment and can carry that on even after our trip is over.

What advice would you give to someone with a similar goal or dream…

Just go for it, what's the worst that can happen? It is a lot cheaper than you think so don't let money stand in your way.

Where are you off to next?

We actually just arrived in New Zealand today, flying into Queenstown over the mountains was an incredible welcome to a new country.
